As the largest student project in the entirety of Croatia with 120 students taking part in the project, FSB Racing have produced 9 race-cars and have travelled all across Europe to participate in many annual Formula Student competitions over the last 18 years,

  • Introduce your team briefly.
FSB Racing Team is a student project, operating under the Croatian Student Association of Engineering Faculties. Founded in 2003 at the University of Zagreb’s Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture. Today, it is the largest student project in the entirety of Croatia with 120 students taking part in the project. Over the last 18 years, we have produced 9 race-cars and have travelled all across Europe to participate in many annual Formula Student competitions. Until 2019 we have built 7 FS vehicles with IC engines and in 2019 introduced our first electric vehicle with the first monocoque chassis made in Croatia. Each project we have is a huge undertaking in its own right, a long and arduous process from initial concepts and objectives to the successful manufacture and assembly of each subsystem and the finished vehicle, with each part designed and developed and some even manufactured by students. Every single member contributes with his or her knowledge, work, time and commitment to the team’s common goal, which is to complete the project, get a car on the track, compete against rival teams in our country, our region, and the entire world, and fill us and the University of Zagreb with pride, while gaining invaluable practical experience.

  • Tell us about your team’s history with Formula Student.
When the project started in 2003 the main goal was to build a car which can go to competitions. Today, after 14 FS competitions we really want to be in the top 30% teams in Europe and we think that our team is currently on the right way to achieve this. Our best team result was 2014 with our car called Arctos at Silverstone, 19th place out of 97 teams,  and since then we are very keen to achieve an even better result. Hope this year will be our year!

  • What does joining Formula Student Netherlands mean to you?
It means a great deal since we never were on FS Netherlands and are very happy that we can participate this year in the competition! Hope it will be a successful competition for us.

  • What are your main goals for this year?
To achieve the best result the team has had in the 18 years of existing.

  • What made you think of/choose FSN?
Honestly, we heard all the best about FSN for so long that we wanted to see the competition for ourselves, so we were very happy when you confirmed us a spot for the competition in 2020 and also for 2021!

  • What makes you different from the other teams?
Huh, a tough one. We are different because we don’t look like usual engineers and that’s why we can always surprise our sponsors and ourselves with the inventive ideas we have. That is maybe also our biggest value!

  • What is your biggest achievement in Formula Student so far?
    FS United Kingdome, 2014, 10/97

  • Describe your car in three words.
    Undestroyable, fast and good looking.

  • How did COVID-19 affect your team and how did you deal with it?
It did affect us, but we are happy that we had the possibility to use our workshop almost normally. We had delays with manufacturing our parts as the whole world stopped but we have to say that we are pretty happy with how we handled the situation. We transferred our meetings and work to online mode as much as we could and it worked out great! We miss the meetings in person and seeing each other at the Faculty the most, but we try to do the best.
Also, in the time we couldn’t work on the car we had the opportunity to change some crucial things for the team, as the team structure, software we use, writing our reports and so on, so it surely wasn’t a boring time being in the team.
