Elbflorace Team Interview
Introduce your team briefly

We are Elbflorace, the Formula Student Team from Dresden. This season we are about 80 team members from different studies like mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, business administration and a lot more. Due the Covid situation we started to develop our new car in 2020 and made a lot of design changes. This year we will drive with 10 inches rims and we designed a hydraulic suspension system for the first time.

Tell us about your team’s history with Formula Student

Elbflorace was founded in 2006 and built 2 combustion cars. Since 2010 we have built electric vehicles. In 2018 we produced our first autonomous vehicle and last year our first “hybrid” electrical prototype with integrated driverless functions.

What does joining Formula Student Netherlands mean to you?

FSN is always a great event with a good organization. It is a lot of fun and the track is quite nice. We are happy to be here this year again.

What are your main goals for this year?

Last year was very successful for us and we want to build on this achievement.

What made you think of/choose FSN?

FSN is mostly at the beginning of the event season and this makes the event very unpredictable because
you don´t know which car is reliable enough. Everything could happen and this makes it so fascinating. We are excited!

What makes you different from the other teams?

Every season we lose our rear wing once, 2018 very famous during the German television show “Grip” and last year during our first 5 meters we drove. Our new car “HerminE” hasn´t lost it yet, so fingers crossed that it won´t happen during the event.

What is your most significant achievement in Formula Student so far?

Since 2018 we hold the record in FSG for the acceleration discipline. Last year it was the first place in FSN and the third place in Hockenheim. At FS East we could finish our first DV scrutineering in the history. Overall we are very proud to be in the top ten world ranking list.

Do you think there are any positive outcomes for the competition from the current situation?

It is a big motivation that everyone can come to the event again. It was very hard last year if you worked over one year on the car but couldn´t drive to any event. We are excited to meet all the other teams again, to get to know each other and have some great time together.

What can the Formula Student organising bodies do to help the struggling teams due to the recent events?

Most teams have issues with money. Everything is getting more expensive and the financial stress for every member is getting higher. To reduce this stress the Formula Student organising bodies could make the camping and registration fees as cheap as possible to relieve every team and every member.

Describe your car in three words

Campus Motorsport Hannover Team Interview
Introduce your team briefly

The Campus Motorsport-Team consists of about 40 highly motivated students from different fields of study. Our home is the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hanover, Germany.

Tell us about your team’s history with Formula Student

The Project Motorsport was brought to life in the year 2007. The team of 2008 and our supervising professor at the time went to Hockenheim to get an idea of the competition and to collect some ideas for the following construction and production of our first single seat formula race car: the Pegasus 09. We had our first experiences with this car at the Formula Student Event in Germany where we gained valuable knowledge for further development. With our following race cars, we took part in the events in Italy, Hungary, Czech Republic, Netherlands and Austria.

What does joining Formula Student Netherlands mean to you?

A lot of special memories: At FSN 2018 we were able to score our first ever overall win in the CV class.

What are your main goals for this year?

For FSN, our goal is to unleash the full potential of the vehicle for the first time in 2022. And of course, to make it a summer to remember and strengthen our team!

What made you think of/choose FSN?

FS Netherlands at the TT Circuit Assen is kind of a “home race” for us as it is the closest Formula Student Event to our home base Hanover. Plus, we already participated in FSN before and had an amazing time!

What makes you different from the other teams?

Because we are a university of applied sciences, our team has a lot of diversity – from young to old, from extensive to minimal background experience. This makes us unique and packed with potential! We also have many different nationalities and mentalities with equal chances for all members to develop and implement their ideas.

What is your most significant achievement in Formula Student so far?

Our overall win a FS Netherlands in 2018!

Do you think there are any positive outcomes for the competition from the current
situation?

The team is more than excited about the event because it’s the first big one after all this time. We had more development and testing time to unlock so much new knowledge and to build our team.

What can the Formula Student organising bodies do to help the struggling teams due to the
recent events?

To extend the length of FSN. Especially because it is the first time for the teams to go through scrutineering with their new cars. The teams need more time to be able to fix things and take part in the first dynamic disciplines on time.

Describe your car in three words

Loud, louder, noisetest-compliant.

HorsePower Hannover e.V. Team Interview
Introduce your team briefly

HorsePower Hannover e.V. was founded in 2007 by ten motivated students. Since then we grew to a team of 60 members and have competed at a FS competition each year since 2009. We built our 10th electric vehicle, the eH20, with an AWD concept with four individual wheel hub drives, CFRP aluminium sandwich monocoque, full aerodynamic package and a HV accumulator stored in the side pods. The least feature makes us unique in the Formula Student and allows us to compete with a low center of gravity. This year, we will compete at FSN with our eH20, but will compete at later events with our overall 13th vehicle, the eH22. Together we are HorsePower – powered by electricity, driven by passion.

Tell us about your team’s history with Formula Student

We first competed as a combustion team in 2009. Two years later, we switched to the Electric Competition and have been competing since then with our electric Horses (eH), this year with two at the same time – our Corona-vehicle, the eH20 at FSN and the new eH22 at the later events. In 2017 we started additionally with our first DV vehicle at an FS competition. With the great rule change merging the DV and EV class, we are currently working on a vehicle that is able to drive with and without a driver.

What does joining Formula Student Netherlands mean to you?

We first competed at FS Netherlands in 2019 and won 3rd place in Efficiency. Since then we were fascinated by the great atmosphere and organization of FSN so we decided to return. Joining FSN this year means a lot to us as it gives us the opportunity to race again with our eH20 and use the Event as a preparation for newer team members, who were not able to attend events in the last years due to the Corona pandemic.

What are your main goals for this year?

Be better than last year. Our eH20 already participated at FSG 2021, so our main goal for this year is to optimize and to push our vehicle to its limit, especially our vehicle control and aerodynamic package. We worked with a small core team to improve and test the car to win a trophy again at FSN.

What made you think of/choose FSN?

We participated at FSN 2019 and had a great time. The event was well organized and the atmosphere was awesome. You could feel the Formula Student Spirit everywhere so we decided to return this year. As it is the first event in Europe this summer, we had the chance to give our last year’s vehicle, the eH20, a second run.

What makes you different from the other teams?

We have the best Hoosier Ball Rules and are unbeatable in this traditional Formula Student game.

What is your most significant achievement in Formula Student so far?

2. Place Overall at FS Spain 2013

Do you think there are any positive outcomes for the competition from the current situation?

We all got a change of perspective due to the COVID-19 situation. Teams and Events transferred parts of their work in the digital workspace and are now able to work more remotely. And we value the time in the workshops with our teammates more than before, as we know how hard it can be to have to work together without being able to really meet the other team members.

What can the Formula Student organising bodies do to help the struggling teams due to the recent events?

Be as supportive as possible.

Did your team help your local society with the COVID-19 situation?

We used our 3D-Printers to provide face shields for the front line workers at the beginning of the COVID-19 situation.

Personal Statement:

We hope that we will have finally a “normal” event-season again and wish all the participating teams the best of luck. Let’s have some fun!
