  • Introduce your team briefly

UGATU Racing Team is a student engineering racing team of Ufa State Aviation Technical University from Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia. We have two departments – production and non-production, which contribute our work to be more productive. The first one designs, manufactures and builds our racing cars, the second one – finds sponsorship, presents our work to the public and advertises team events.

  • Tell us about your team’s history with Formula Student.

The decision for participating in Formula Student came to life in 2015. The first step on our way was an engineering project SmartMoto Challenge. Our team built an electric motorcycle and successfully competed in Barcelona and Moscow in 2016. The second step was the Eco-Marathon car, to drive the greatest number of kilometres on one litre of fuel. We participated in the Eco-Marathon twice, both 2017 and 2018 in London and won an off-track award «Perseverance and Spirit». During two years of teamwork and performing on the European stages, we gained useful experience and technical skills, found the necessary partners and became more confident. Finally, in 2017 we began designing and manufacturing a racing car for Formula Student, the result of which was first participating in Formula Student Netherlands 2018.

  • What does joining Formula Student Netherlands mean to you?

Participating in Formula Student Netherlands is a great step for us. It means that our team progressed to the next level, to which we have worked for three years. It is a good opportunity to show our university, our republic and our country on the European stage, take some experience from smart judges and meet other members of Formula Student.

  • What are your main goals for this year?

Our main goal for this year is to successfully pass technical inspections and drive on the track. Also, receive good points for the static events.

  • What is your biggest achievement in Formula Student so far?

Our team is only four years old, but during this time, we achieved many awards and participated in many events for such a young team. Moreover, we the only student engineering racing team in our region – Republic of Bashkortostan.

Last year we have participated at Formula Student for the first time and did not take the best results with a racing car, but our biggest achievement was travelling about 5000 kilometres to the places of the competitions. This year will be our second time, so we plan to travel again 5000 km and receive more points on the disciplines.

Our racing car was built for 4 months, its weight is 296 kg. The engine was taken from motorcycle and modernised by students. Last year the number of our car was 102 – it is our region number. This year our number is 702 – CHEER FOR US!
