RUB Motorsport Team Interview

Amira Tamam

• Introduce your team briefly.
We are RUB Motorsport, the Formula Student Team of the Ruhr-University Bochum. Our team currently consists of around 40 members from different fields of studies. We all work very hard on our upcoming car the RUB20, which we start in 2020.

• Tell us about your team’s history with Formula Student.
Our team was founded in 2011 and built our first racing car in 2013. At this time we also took part in Formula Student Germany for the first time. This year we are already developing our seventh racing car, which we want to present for the first time at the FSN.

• What does joining Formula Student Netherlands mean to you?
Participation in FSN is great fun every year. In 2018 we managed to take third place in both the Cost Report and the Skid Pad so that the FSN 2018 is one of our most successful events.

• What are your main goals for this year?
In any case, a big goal is to finally drive to the Formula Student events again and present our new car there and see it drive after almost two years of planning and construction. Above all, the consistency of our car is very important to us throughout the event phase. We also want to present ourselves well as a team in the statics and achieve a good ranking.

• What made you think of/choose FSN?
The FSN has been an integral part of our event calendar for our team since our first participation.

• What is your biggest achievement in Formula Student so far?
Our biggest achievement was our first participation at the FSG in 2013, the third place in Cost Report and Skid Pad and the FSN 2018 and the successful completion of the endurance at the FSG 2018.

• Describe your car in three words.
Ready to race

• How did COVID-19 affect your team and how did you deal with it?
Due to Covid-19, we first had to interrupt work on our RUB20 and could only continue working in the home office. Thanks to our hygiene concept, however, we were able to work in small groups in our workshop again after a short time. Due to the cancellation of the events in summer 2020, we also had the opportunity to deal with our racing car even more intensively and to spend additional time developing, manufacturing, and testing the RUB20.
