Infinity Racing Team Interview

Amira Tamam

Introduce your team briefly

We are Infinity Racing, the Formula Student team of the University of Applied Sciences Kempten in Bavaria, Germany. The team was founded in 2007 and by now we are nearly 30 committed students. We are developing both combustion and driverless vehicles.

Tell us about your team’s history with Formula Student

The first competition we participated in was the Formula Student Germany in 2008. Then, we won the “Best Newcomer Award” as the best of the teams firstly partaking in the FSG. In 2017, we built our first car with a carbon fibre monocoque.

What does joining Formula Student Netherlands mean to you?

This year, we are participating in the Formula Student Netherlands for the first time – and the last time with a combustion vehicle. The FSN event is the beginning of a season, in which we want to celebrate the farewell from our combustion era appropriately. And, of course, it’s the first event after a cancelled season!

What are your main goals for this year?

Our goal this year was to build a reliable car with known systems and some important improvements thus completing a successful season.

What made you think of/choose FSN?

Never before have we attended the FSN event and so we did not hesitate to confirm our participation!

What makes you different from the other teams?

We are a small team, however, what we may lack in size we make up for with our commitment and persistence.

What is your biggest achievement in Formula Student so far?

Our biggest achievements in Formula Student were winning the Best Newcomer Award at FSG, first place at the business event at FSS and several top placements in the dynamic disciplines.

Describe your car in three words.

Red and blue

How did COVID-19 affect your team and how did you deal with it?

We were affected mainly during the manufacturing process. However, when working in our workshop was restricted, we did some design revisions and – most importantly – decided to tackle the development of our first electric race car for the season 2022.
